REVIEW
I love anything released on the Cadet label. LOVE IT. I love the production...full-sounding and dark, sometimes to the point of being creepy (see Rotary Connection or Dorothy Ashby). Here we have the winning combination of the always-creative John Klemmer and the unbeatable Chess records house band (with Phil Upchurch on bass??!?). The original version of "Excursion #2" kicks it all off and pretty much sets the tone for the whole album: high-energy improvisation (most of it very free) over funky and/or spacey rock grooves. The exception is "My Love has Butterfly Wings," which is a trippy ballad played through an echoplex. And don't listen to "My Heart Sings" with headphones on...you will go insane, trust me. This date was recorded while John was still in the Ellis band, so if you like his playing on those albums, I recommend any of his Cadet output (though only Involvement is available on CD).

Who is the dude with the beard on the cover? See him? Who is that??!?!
